Supported platforms and requirements

CodeTwo Exchange Rules Pro is designed to work with two versions of Exchange Servers: 2019 and 2016. There are two main components that need to be installed. Their requirements differ slightly from each other. Study the description and table below to get an overview of supported systems and requirements enabling its smooth and uninterrupted operation. There is no need to install anything on end-users' machines, the software runs server-side.

Exchange Rules Pro Service is a set of services (Transport Agent, Exchange Rules Service, Attendant Service, Sent Items Update Service) responsible for processing rules and settings defined within the Administration Panel and applying them to messages traveling through the Exchange Server.

Administration Panel is the management console of the program used for the configuration of rules and other settings associated with the program's operation. The Administration Panel handles the settings to Exchange Rules Service, which is responsible for processing them.

CodeTwo Exchange Rules Converter is a stand-alone application that can convert email rules and templates form the CodeTwo Exchange Rules product family to CodeTwo Email Signatures 365

Exchange Servers 2007, 2010, and 2013 are no longer supported.
It is impossible to install program components using Group Policy Object (GPO) or other unattended or remote deployment method. The installation has to be performed manually on each machine.
Linked mailboxes are supported; however, Active Directory data such as AD user properties and AD group membership is obtained from the domain controller of the environment in which Exchange Server and the CodeTwo services are installed.
Encrypted and digitally signed emails are processed if the S/MIME or Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS) standard is used. Others, such as PGP or OpenPGP (e.g. GPG), are not yet supported.

Additional requirements for the built-in unsubscribe mechanism:

  • the unsubscribe mechanism supports TLS versions up to 1.2.
  • if your environment uses TLS 1.2 as the only protocol, you need to update the CodeTwo software to the latest version to be able to use the unsubscribe feature (TLS 1.2 is supported in version 2.11.2 and newer).
Size on disk after installation: When both the Administration Panel and the Exchange Rules Pro Service are installed, the installation size on your disk is similar to the size of the installation file (see the Download page for details). Installation of additional components (such as .NET) might be required - these components usually require less than 100 MB of available disk space.
