Rule categories

All rules created with CodeTwo Exchange Rules Pro can be easily grouped into categories. A single category consists of a chosen name and color. One category can belong to multiple rules at the same time, and likewise, multiple rules may belong to one category. To manage categories you can use the Rule categories tab located in the program's Settings (Fig. 1.).

Important

You must have the Manage rules order and their General properties permission to manage the categories. Learn more about access rights

The tab allows you to use the Add, Edit and Remove buttons to change the configuration of your categories. When you edit a category that already belongs to some rules, the associations are automatically updated. In a similar way, when you remove a category that is associated with some of your rules, all associations are automatically removed.

To add a new category, click the New button. The New category window will open. Please provide any desired name of the new category and choose an appropriate color using the color picker. When you are done, simply click the OK button and the new category will appear on the list. Similarly, you can use the Edit button to update an already existing category.

Tip

You can use the same colors for different rule categories but the name of a category must always be unique and up to 50 characters long.

The number of categories assigned to one rule is not limited in any way. The colors of the first two categories are always displayed next to the rule name. All corresponding categories (colors and names) are visible on the General tab. The program displays up to 5 rows containing your categories. If there is not enough space to show all of them, the program will display information about that in the first row.

To manage all assigned categories, you can use the Assign categories button (at the bottom of the General tab) or right-click a rule and select Categories. To assign a category, simply select the checkbox located next to a desired category name. What is more, in the current window you can globally manage categories using the NewEdit and Delete buttons.
