The Dashboard tab shows the progress of your migration jobs and all program’s notifications (good and bad news). This is also where you can configure both source and target server connections and check your licensing information.
Before you configure a migration job, you should connect to your source and target environments by using dedicated server connection wizards. When connecting to an on-premises Exchange server, you can choose which protocol should be used for that purpose: EWS or MAPI.
The program can automatically find the source server for migration, or you can configure the connection manually by providing the server’s FQDN or IP address.
If the account used to configure the source Exchange Server connection requires certain permissions, the program will assign them automatically.
To connect to source or target Office 365 (Microsoft 365), CodeTwo Office 365 Migration is registered in the Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory) of each tenant that will be used in the migration process.
The registration is completely safe and can be performed automatically. You don’t need to provide any credentials in the program – simply authenticate via the Microsoft sign-in page.
You can also register the program manually. If you do so, you will be asked to provide the necessary registration details in the server connection wizard.
You can also use an IMAP server as the source of the migration. To do this, type in your server's address (or choose it from the drop-down menu) and complete the wizard.
At the end of each server connection wizard, the program performs a set of actions to establish the connection. If there are any problems, the wizard will display possible solutions.
To configure data migration tasks, you need to create a migration job. You can migrate entire mailboxes from on-premises Exchange servers or emails from IMAP platforms (like Google Workspace or IBM Notes). You can also migrate all items between two Office 365 (Microsoft 365) tenants.
A migration job wizard allows you to choose source and target servers, select users for migration and apply various filters.
When migrating from Exchange, the Mailbox types step lets you select which types of mailboxes you want to migrate: primary mailboxes, archive mailboxes or both.
In the Source mailboxes step of the migration job wizard, specify which mailboxes should be migrated. You can also select Exchange public folders.
The program’s mailbox matching mechanism lets you automatically match source mailboxes with their target counterparts.
You can also define a custom pattern according to which mailboxes should be matched. Your pattern can be composed using several Active Directory attributes.
You can also generate a detailed HTML report that shows the result of the matching process and informs what actions have been performed. The report also includes information about the selected settings for the Automatch option.
Source mailboxes can also be matched with their target equivalents manually, at any point before starting the migration. This feature lets you, e.g., cross-match source primary mailboxes with target archive mailboxes (and the other way around).
If some primary mailboxes are missing in the target Office 365 (Microsoft 365), the program can create them for you. The target user/mailbox creation algorithm can be freely adjusted.
The migration process can also be completely automated by using a built-in scheduler. This feature will start and stop your job at certain days and times or run recurring delta migrations.
Use the Time filter to migrate selected items only, based on their age. This option is very helpful when performing staged migrations.
The Folder filter step allows you exclude certain types of items from being migrated, e.g. Junk Email or Deleted items.
In the Advanced settings step, you can adjust the number of concurrent migration processes carried out at a time and the maximum size of migrated items.
Once you finish configuring the migration job wizard, click Start on the Jobs tab to begin the migration. If you enabled the scheduler option, the job will start automatically.
You can receive reports on the progress of the migration process by email. The reports can be tailored to your needs.
You can generate different reports directly from the program's UI. This one shows the migration progress of a single mailbox.
