Examples of use

CodeTwo Backup for Exchange allows you to automatically back up and restore Exchange mailboxes, public folders data, and SharePoint sites. Thanks to intuitive management options, it is possible to customize every aspect of backup and restore tasks. With CodeTwo Backup for Exchange, you can automate you backups, restore individual items, archive Exchange and SharePoint data to external devices, and more.

The main function of CodeTwo Backup for Exchange is backup and disaster recovery. But apart from this, the application can also serve other purposes. Here are examples of scenarios in which CodeTwo Backup for Exchange will prove helpful:

  1. Continuous incremental Exchange mailbox backup

Continuous incremental Exchange mailbox backup is CodeTwo Backup for Exchange's main capability. The admin can set the application to perform cyclic automatic backup jobs that don't affect service availability and are completely invisible to end-users. Backup copies created in this fashion and kept off-site are a life saver in disaster scenarios.

Backup for Exchange - continuous backup

The program's backup jobs have 3 customizable aspects: the scope of data which will be backed up, when the backups should be performed (non-stop or in selected time periods) and the location of the backup storage.

The backups are incremental. This means that after the first copy of the entire scope of selected mailbox data is created, further backup cycles save only changes and new items that fit within the pre-defined scope.

Thanks to a smart versioning mechanism, CodeTwo Backup for Exchange lets you browse versions of items, and restore them to the source or any other location. Recovery can be performed on various levels of granularity - from single items and attachments, to whole sets of mailboxes.

  3. De-cluttering mailboxes

Mailboxes have a tendency to grow very quickly nowadays. This not only means that they could be bursting at the seams before you know it, but also that your users may get stuck searching for items, their email clients may be more subject to crashes, etc.

Thanks to CodeTwo Backup for Exchange you can de-clutter users' mailboxes by archiving emails, appointments and tasks older than x days to a reliable storage.

When one of the old items is suddenly needed again, it can be easily found and recovered using CodeTwo Backup for Exchange's handy search and recovery tools.

  4. Reversal of accidental or malicious damage

Erroneous deletions, data theft, accidental bulk modifications, item duplication and multiplication, spam floods, malicious attacks... Unless you unplug your organization from the Internet (and eliminate 'the user factor'), you are bound to face at least one of these phenomena during your Exchange admin tenure.

  6. SharePoint migrations

CodeTwo Backup for Exchange not only lets you back up SharePoint data but also migrate the contents from one SharePoint server to another (including SharePoint Online).

    SharePoint migrations

To migrate the contents between two SharePoint sites, you simply need to create a backup job to download all required data from a source on-premises SharePoint, store it temporarily on your local storage, and then restore it to the target SharePoint environment. The whole process is easily managed via the intuitive graphical user interface of the program:

    1. Connect the program to a source SharePoint server and download required SharePoint data to a local storage.
    2. Restore the storage contents to a new SharePoint location, either on-premises or online.

These two simple steps are sufficient to move the contents between SharePoint servers with CodeTwo Backup software.
