Archiving storages and importing archives
CodeTwo Backup saves the backed-up data in local repositories called storages. For safety reasons, storages can be created only on local disk drives. To avoid storing a lot of unnecessary data locally, and keep storage growth under control, CodeTwo Backup includes the option to archive storages on external drives.
SharePoint data
In this version of the program, archiving is only available for Exchange and Office 365 data. If a storage contains also backed-up SharePoint data, only the Exchange / Office 365 contents will be archived. However, SharePoint data archiving feature will be implemented in the next version of CodeTwo Backup.
SharePoint site mailboxes are backed up as part of the Exchange backup job, so they will be included in the archive.
Archives are the exact copies of the current Exchange on-prem and Office 365 contents backed up in the storage. They are created through the use of archive jobs. There are two types of archive jobs that can be configured in the program: standard archive jobs and PST archive jobs. Considering the number of limitations that apply to PST archives, we recommend choosing the standard archive job whenever possible.
When needed, an archive can be imported back to the program via an archive import job.
