Forwarder

Below you will find a quick guide to creating a Forwarder rule in CodeTwo Exchange Rules PRO that will be responsible for sending a forward message to specified address(es). This can be used for example for all non delivery reports, whose copies need to be delivered to the IT department of the company.

To create the rule click Add in the List of rules pane. A dialog box Add new rule will appear. Provide the name for the rule in the text field e.g. Forwarder and confirm by clicking OK.

A new rule named Forwarder will appear in the List of rules pane while the right pane will how the property tabs for the rule (Fig.1.).

The rule tabs i.e. Overview, Conditions, Actions, Exceptions, Options are used to tune how the rule should work. Now you need to perform a few simple steps inside the tabs in order to configure the rule.

Overview. This tab is used to provide a comment describing the rule.

Conditions. In the Conditions tab choose the conditions that will trigger the rule if a message matches the defined criteria. To add a condition click Add and selected the Message type from the menu (Fig.2.). The right pane will show the properties for this condition. Because we want to send a copy of a non delivery report (NDR) to the IT Department, select Non deliver report option in the list. The remaining checkboxes must remain unchecked. (Fig.3.).

Actions. The Actions tab is used to define the work and contents of the forwarded message. Click Add and select Forward message from the list of rules (Fig.4.). The right pane will show the action properties (Fig.5.).

To select the recipient of the forwarded message click Add. Choose from the menu Email address if you want to provide the email address of the recipient (Fig.6.). This rule will send forwards to [email protected] (Fig.7.). By clicking User you can pick users from Active Directory.

The subject field is used to define the subject of the forwarded message. Click the icon of a pencil to edit the subject field in a new dialog box (Fig.8.). Add "Forwarder:" after the {Original Subject} of the message and click OK. With these settings the subject of the forwarded message will be changed accordingly.

Exceptions. The Exceptions tab is used to define the criteria for the rule that if met by a message should exclude it from processing by the given rule. Because we do not want to define any exceptions, this tab will be empty.

Options. The Options tab is used to configure the settings related to the current rule. Because this is a simple Forwarder rule, the settings of this tab are left unchanged. Click to learn more about configuring the rule options.

The rule is ready to use. Click Save in the main window of the program to approve all recent changes. Once the rule is saved it begins to operate and all NDRs will automatically be forwarded to the IT Department.
