One-way synchronization

Synchronization of data available in CodeTwo Exchange Sync can be divided into two general types:

• One-Way - involves synchronizing items only in one direction: from the source folders to the target folders. It means that once you create, delete or change any items in the source folder, this will be reflected in the target folder. On the other hand, changes on items introduced to the target folder will not be replicated to the source folder. Furthermore, the one-way synchronization can be defined between more than two folders. Depending on the type of the one-way synchronization, the number of source or target folders may vary and is restricted to your choice.
• Two-Way - in this synchronization type changes introduced on items in source and target folders are reflected in both directions. It doesn't matter if you create, edit or delete items on source or target folder, the change will be replicated to them equally. This type of synchronization is also called a folder ring.

Creating new one-way synchronization task

To create a one-way synchronization task, click New in the ribbon of the Administration Panel. In the Synchronization type selection window, expand Synchronization type and choose one of the available tasks (Fig. 1.).

Next, name your task and click OK . The task will be added to the list of defined synchronization tasks on the right-hand side of the Admin's Panel (Fig. 2.).

In all One-Way synchronization types CodeTwo Exchange Sync allows using conditions and modifications during the synchronization. 

One-to-one synchronization

One-to-one synchronization involves replicating data from one source folder to one target folder. All changes made to the source folder (e.g. item editing, deletion, creation) will be reflected in the target folder. Furthermore, the changes made to the target folder will not affect the source folder.

By defining the one-to-one synchronization type you will be able to define only one source and one target folder.

Note, that once you choose a particular type of source folder, e.g. Contacts, you will be only able to define the target folder of the same type.

One-to-many synchronization

One -to-many synchronization involves replicating data from one source folder to multiple target folders. All changes made to the source folder (e.g. item editing, deletion, creation) will be reflected in the target folders. The changes made to the target folders will not affect the source folder.

By defining the one-to-many synchronization type, you will be able to choose only one source folder and multiple target folders. Therefore, a particular type of the source folder will determine the choice of the target folders type as they need to be of the same type as the source one.

Many-to-one synchronization

Many-to-one synchronization involves replicating data from multiple source folders to one target folder. All changes made to the source folders (e.g. item editing, deletion, creation) will be reflected in the target folder. The changes made to the target folder, though, will not affect the source folders.

By defining a many-to-one synchronization type, the user can choose multiple source folders but only one target folder. Therefore, all folders: source and target, must be of the same type.

Please note that the particular target folders cannot be reused as the source folders in any other synchronization tasks. The same restriction applies to the source folders, therefore they cannot be reused as target folders in any other synchronization tasks.

Important: no matter what type of one-way synchronization you will choose, by default if any changes are introduced to the synchronized items within the target folder, they will be overwritten by the source folder items unless the restoring feature in advanced options is defined differently.
