Problem:

How to set Contacts from non-default folder as default address book.

Solution:

If you want contacts from a non-default folder to be your default option when choosing recipients to new messages, just follow the below steps.

Before starting make sure you enabled the non-default contact folder as an Outlook Address Book as explained in this article: codetwo.com/kb/how-to-create-a-common-company-address-book/

Outlook 2016 / 2013 / 2010:

  1. Open Address Book by pressing Ctrl+Shift+B on your keyboard or clicking the Address Book icon in the Outlook ribbon (Fig. 1.) or by clicking Tools, Address Book.

  2. In the Address Book window click Tools, Options.
  3. From the dropdown menu (Fig. 2.) under When opening the address book, show this address list first: choose your non-default folder.
  4. Click OK and close the Address Book window.

Outlook 2007:

  1. Open Address Book by pressing Ctrl+Shift+B on your keyboard or clicking the Address Book icon in the Outlook ribbon (Fig. 3.).

  2. In the Address Book window click Tools, Options.
  3. From the dropdown menu (Fig. 4.) under Show this address list first: choose your non-default folder.

  4. Click OK and close the Address Book window.
