Creating a backup copy and restoring data in CodeTwo Public Folders

If you need to secure data stored in public folders or move the CodeTwo Public Folders server module to another computer, frequently this will require saving data contained in the folders.


How to create a back up copy in CodeTwo Public Folders.
The steps have to be carried out on the computer hosting the server module.

1. Stopping C2PublicFolders service.
To stop C2PublicFolders service, choose Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, then right-click C2PublicFolders and select Stop from the menu. More about C2PublicFolders service...

2. Copying DATA folder.
The next step is locating the folder that contains data from folders. Normally, the path is C:\Program Files\CodeTwo\C2PublicFoldersServer\DATA, although during installation you can specify a different destination folder. To create a backup copy, simply copy DATA folder with all its content to a safe place.

3. Starting C2PublicFolders service.
To activate C2PublicFolders system service, choose Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services then right-click C2PublicFolders and select Start from the menu.


How to restore backed up data in CodeTwo Public Folders.
The steps have to be carried out on the computer hosting the server module.

1. Stopping C2PublicFolders service.

To restore data, simply copy DATA folder with all its content to the specified folder.

3. Starting C2PublicFolders service.
To activate C2PublicFolders system service, choose Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services then right-click C2PublicFolders and select Start from the menu.


DATA folder has the structure resembling the list of folders in C2Public Folders. Individual data items of all type are saved as MSG files. More about restoring individual data items…

Data shared by users are saved to DataUsers folder. It is not necessary to back up data from this folder, as this data is stored on individual users’ computers.
