Error: Failed to create empty document

Problem:

When starting the Editor in Exchange Rules 2003 / 2007 / 2010, the following error message appears:

Failed to create empty document.

Solution:

The problem is related to a conflict between the default printer and the MFC Windows library. To solve this problem, change the default printer (permanently or only when you are working in the Editor).
