Log files

Log files contain diagnostic information that can be used if the program deviates from its intended behavior. Depending on the circumstances, you can set a standard or detailed level of logging for the saved information.

To display the log files dialog box, in the window of CodeTwo Exchange Rules PRO click Settings. By default the Log files tab is opened (Fig.1.).

Location of the log files

The Log files tab lists paths to folders containing log files of the Agent module, Administrator module, and the Sent Items Update service. To quickly view a log file click Open next to the field specifying the path to the Logs folder.

It is not possible to change the location of the log files.

After clicking Open the dialog box will show the list of the log files created by the program (Fig.2.).

During a single day, the program may create plenty of text log files in the following name format: YYYY.MM.DD_00001, YYYY.MM.DD_00002, YYYY.MM.DD_00003 etc., where Y stands for the year, M for the month and D for the day in which the file was created. The maximum size of the file is 2 MB.

Use Save All button to save the log files in the selected folder.

Limiting the Number of Log Files

When the application is running it may create a great number of log files. If the number of the log files created so far hampers their management, you can limit the total number of log files that can be kept by the program. The maximum number of log files that you want to keep needs to be provided in the field Keep the last X log files for diagnostic purposes (Fig.3.). When the maximum number of log files has been defined, the application will automatically delete the oldest files if their total number exceeds the defined number.

Remember that the log files will not be deleted instantly once you have entered the maximum number of log files that the program will store. The removal of files will be initiated with the next message processed by the server.

Logging Level

In the Logging level section you can specify the level of verbosity for logging. (Fig.4.). By default, the level is set to Standard (recommended when the program functions correctly). If CodeTwo Exchange Rules PRO deviates from its intended behavior, it is recommended to set the Logging level to Detailed by choosing the mode from the dropdown menu.

To keep the changes, click OK in the Log files dialog box and click Save in the toolbar in the main window of CodeTwo Exchange Rules PRO.
