Scope of recipients

Before CodeTwo Exchange Rules PRO processes any messages and performs any actions, it checks the defined conditions. If a message meets the condition, then it is processed. If not, the rule will not apply and no action will be taken. Apart from defining the scope of senders you can set up a condition for Scope of recipients. In order to do that on the Conditions tab you need to click the Add button, and then select Scope of recipients (Fig.1.).

If you do not add Scope of recipients to the list of Conditions, the rule will apply to messages sent to any recipient.

The Scope of recipients will be added to the list of conditions in the middle pane, while the right pane will show the condition properties (Fig.2.). Click Add to define the recipients. The following options are available to define the scope of recipients: e-mail address, Active Directory group and users, organizational unit, internal and external to the organization, unknown address and disabled users in Active Directory (Fig.3.). If the scope of recipients is empty, the rule will apply to all recipients.

By default the program will process the message and apply the rule if all of the criteria specified in the list of conditions are met. In the example below the rule will be applied only when the user is the Administrator (Fig.4.) and the message type is: new mail message or reply/forward message (Fig.5.).

You can change the logic of conditions when you click on the word ALL. The word ALL will be replaced by ANY, which means that the rule will apply if at least one condition is met. In the example below for the rule to apply the user has to be the Administrator (Fig.6.) or the message type is: new mail message or reply/forward (Fig.7.).

Below you can read about all available options to define the Scope of recipients:

E-mail
If you want to define the recipients' address or addresses for the program to check before processing any messages, you need to choose Add, and then E-mail (Fig.8.). In the new window (Fig.9.) you can type e-mail addresses separated by semi-colon, or domain address with an asterisks (*) to include multiple addresses from the same domain.

Active Directory Group
If you want to define a group of recipients from the Active Directory you need to choose Add (Fig.10.), and then Active Directory Group. In the new window (Fig.11.), you can search for the desired group of recipients (in this example it is the group of Administrators)

Active Directory Filter
Another useful option is the properties filter to use in Active Directory. If you want to use this option choose Add, and then Active Directory Properties Filter (Fig.12.). In the new window you can define various fields. In this example the condition is: if the AD field Country equals USA then the rule will be applied (Fig.13.). Additionally you may check whether one of the conditions above is met or all conditions are met from the properties' filter list.

Active Directory User
You can also search for a specified user in Active Directory. In order to do it, you need to choose Add, and then select Active Directory User (Fig.14 & 15.).

Organizational Unit
If you want to define an Organizational Unit for the scope of senders you need to choose Add, and then select Organizational Unit (Fig.16 & 17.).

Internal Users
It is also possible to use all internal users as the scope of recipients. To use this option you need to choose Add, and then select Internal User (Fig.18 & 19.). This element doesn't have any additional options, it is only displayed on the conditions list (Fig.19.)

External Users
Similarly, you can define the external users. To set it up, choose Add, and then select External User (Fig.20.).

Unknown Address
Another option is a condition for users with unknown address. You can activate it when you choose Add, and then select Unknown address (Fig.22 & 23.).

Disabled AD User
The last element for the scope of recipients condition is for the disabled users in Active Directory. If you want to use it, you need to choose Add, and then select Disabled in AD (Fig.24 & 25.).
